FAQ's

Q. What is purpose of Roads Scholar Program?
A. The Roads Scholar Program establishes educational and training requirements for municipal level highway practitioners, and recognizes those who have successfully completed specified T2 Center Programs. Annually, the T2 Center publishes a directory to acknowledge those who have earned an achievement level among our Roads Scholars.

Q. What are some reasons to join the Roads Scholar Program?
A. There are many reasons to become a roads scholar, such as learning relevant information from people in the field; peer support and recognition; network with local people and others across the state; official letters sent to your supervisor, town selectman, and a copy for yourself; name published in Road Business and Roads Scholar Directory; awards presented at each level; Master Roads Scholars are featured with a portrait in Road Business and invited to a recognition luncheon; earn optional CEUs for licensure, meet new people while having fun and experience something new!

Q. Who attends UNH T2 Center Roads Scholar Program training?
A. It depends on the workshop! However, the majority of our customers are road agents, public works directors, highway crew, selectmen, NHDOT employees, private citizens, and employees from other private entities.

Q. How do I join the Roads Scholar Program?
A. Register for a workshop! You are enrolled in the program with the first workshop you take!

Q. How many levels are in the Roads Scholar Program?
A. There are four levels in the Roads Scholar Program; level one, level two, senior roads scholar (level three) and master roads scholar (level four).

Q. How do you achieve each of the levels?
A. Achieve level one by earning 25 contact hours. Achieve level two by earning 50 contact hours and covering specific subject areas; basics, technical, supervisory/personal development, tort liability/safety and environmental.. Achieve level 3 by earning 75 contact hours and specific subject requirements of level two. Achieve level 4 by earning 100 contact hours and specific subject requirements of level two.

Q. How do I know what classes I need to take?
A. Use our matrix! You can fill it out as you move along in the program. You can also use the Roads Scholar Program table or call us. We're happy to help you!

Q. What is after the Masters level?
A. Currently the Masters level in the last level in the program. However, once this level is reached, you are welcome to continue training.

Q. How many credits do I get at each workshop?
A. It depends. Most of our workshops are worth 5 credits and are one day. However, we sometimes feature two and three day workshops and award more credits. Check the training calendar for information on credits.

Q. Who instructs UNH T2 Center Roads Scholar Program training?
A. It depends on the workshop! However, our instructors are always well experienced in the field. We have road agents, public works directors, engineers, NHDOT district engineers, attorneys, LTAP Directors, and private individuals instruct our workshops.

Q. How do I volunteer to instruct UNH T2 Center Roads Scholar Program training?
A. Contact Kathryn Myers, Training Program Manager, k.myers@unh.edu or 603-862-1362. We are always looking for new volunteers!

Q. What is workshop schedule?
A. It depends. However, most of workshops start promptly at 8:30AM and end between 2 and 3PM. However, Check the flyer for more information.

Q. What if a workshop I want to take is full?
A. Get on the waitlist! We will contact you and inform you if space becomes available or if a new date for the workshop has been scheduled. Those on the waitlist are contacted before we advertise!

Q. Can I repeat a workshop?
A. Yes. You are welcome to repeat a workshop at any time. We highly recommend it if it has been years since the last one. New information is always available and the instructors change sometimes too.

Q. Can other training I've taken be applied to the Roads Scholar Program?
A. Yes! We accept up to ten outside hours from training through Primex, the LGC (NHMA), and other LTAP centers. Also, effective August 2008 we accept all hours in the PW Academy . Fax us a copy of your certificate: 603-862-0620.

Q. How can I get a copy of my transcript?
A. Call us at 603-862-1362! We will fax, email, or mail you a copy!

Q. Can I attend a workshop if it has NOT been paid for?
A. Yes. We bill on the first of the month AFTER the workshop is held for any UNPAID workshops.

Q. What are CEUs?
A. CEUs are Continuing Education Units. They are for special licensure and are $20 extra per person for each workshop. They are NOT NEEDED for the Roads Scholar Program.

Q. Do I bring my own lunch to the workshop?
A. No. We provide a light continental breakfast and lunch at all of our workshops. If you have special dietary needs, please contact Katy Myers, Training Program Manager: k.myers@unh.edu or 603-862-1362.

Q. Where are the workshops held?
A. UNH T2 center workshops are held all over the state of NH. However, we often hold workshops in: Manchester, Concord, Rochester, Somersworth, Lebanon, Lincoln, and Swanzey.

Q. How do I get directions to the workshop?
A. Directions are posted on our directions page and on the flyers. Feel free to call us for directions also, 800-423-0060 (in NH) or 603-862-1362.

Q. Where do I park?
A. Most of the facilities where we hold workshops, have on-site parking. Consult the flyer or directions page for parking information.

Q. What if it snows?
A. It is not likely that we cancel a workshop due to snow. However, if this happens, it will be posted on our website and we will contact everyone registered for the workshop. Give us your cell phone # as a convenient way for us to contact you.

Q. What if I can't attend a workshop I'm registered for?
A. Call us as soon to cancel as soon as you know. You may replace your name with someone else's or we can fill your seat with someone from the waitlist. However, if you don't call before three days of the workshop and we can't fill your seat, you will be charged.
