The UNH T2 Challenge at the Mountain of Demonstrations

Mountain of Demonstrations

The UNH T2 Challenge was fun and informational for all that participated. At this booth, the New Hampshire Public Works Municipal Engineers Association, represented by Keith Noyes (far left) Director of Public Works in Exeter and Steve Parkinson (far right) Director of Public Works in Portsmouth, assisted participants with Road Repair strategies.

At the 13th Annual New Hampshire Road Agents Association show, the Mountain of Demonstrations, the UNH T2 Center held a training exercise known as the T2 Challenge.

To complete the T2 Challenge, participants attended two half-hour training sessions offered by W.W. Grainger Inc., complete a pre-trip vehicle inspection, a road condition assessment, and a scavenger hunt.

W.W. Grainger Inc. offered four safety training sessions. The T2 Challenge participants were required to attend two, each lasting a half-hour.

Southworth-Milton sponsored a pre-operational vehicle inspection. The backhoe was rigged with fifteen problems to be found during a routine inspection. Participants had to find eight errors to complete this exercise.

The New Hampshire Public Works Municipal Engineers Association assisted at a booth where participants identified pavement distress and the proper repair strategies.

Finally, the scavenger hunt sent participants all over the event in search of information that would help them to do their jobs more effectively and have fun at the same time. The questions ranged from "what’s the phone number for DigSafe?" to "what are the three basic grades of sign retroreflectivity?"

The T2 Challenge was successful. Over 100 people participated. People who completed the challenge received a hat and 2 hours of Road Scholar Credit. Certificates were mailed to all of those who completed the training. What was the most important part? Everyone had fun while learning more about their jobs!
